Sidney Murray served as the Mayor of Vidalia, Louisiana for 6 terms beginning in 1960. During the 1970s, Murray embarked on a massive project to the harness the power of the Mississippi River to create a safe, clean, renewable energy source for the citizens of Vidalia. In 1990 his dream was realized with the construction of the largest prefabricated power plant in the world, the Sidney A. Murray, Jr. Hydroelectric Generating Station.
